After Wednesday night Mass, the family had a wonderful opportunity to be blessed with a relic of Bishop Frederic Baraga! Bishop Baraga, intercede for us!
We even had him as an overnight guest in our house Saturday evening. My husband was at the cathedral for the Catholic men's conference and Father had asked him to transport Bishop's relic to our parish.
Bishop Frederic Baraga cause for sainthood is underway.
Bishop Frederic Baraga, first bishop of the Diocese of Marquette (from 1853 until 1868), was the first of many Slovenian missionaries to come to the United States to help build up the American Catholic Church. Baraga's two successor bishops in Marquette, Most Reverend Ignatius Mrak and Most Reverend John Vertin, attribute their missionary vocations to him as well. The seminarian, St. John Neumann, was inspired to come to America after reading Baraga's missionary accounts in Berichte, a publication of the Leopoldine Missionary Society in Vienna.
He wrote long and frequent accounts of his missionary activities including a three-volume diary. He also wrote seven Slovenian prayerbooks and authored 20 Native American books which inlcudes his monumental Grammar and Dictionary of the Chippewa Language , still in use today. He was the first bishop to write a pastoral letter in both the English and Chippewa languages.
Glorifying the Lord as a Child of God, a Wife, a Mother, a Homeschool Teacher, a Homesteader, and a Runner
Do you not know that the runners in the stadium all run in the race, but only one wins the prize? Run so as to win. Every athlete exercises discipline in every way. They do it to win a perishable crown, but we an imperishable one. Thus I do not run aimlessly; I do not fight as if I were shadowboxing. No, I drive my body and train it, for fear that, after having preached to others, I myself should be disqualified. - 1 Cor 9:24-27

Praise Jesus for a thoughtful husband!
During many of my runs, I've come across fierce dogs; some chained up, some not. I have also heard noises in the woods, too. There have been bear and cougar sightings up here. I have voiced my concern to my husband a few times.
This past Saturday, my husband attended a Catholic men's conference at the cathedral. Since he was in a "big" town, he stopped at a outdoor store and purchased some pepper spray for me.
This morning, I went out for my normal four mile run with the pepper spray clipped to my running pants. At mile two, a giant black dog thought he'd chase me down the street. I'm not familiar with dog breeds, but he was big enough for my three year old to ride. I heard the owner yelling, "Heal, Mojo! Heal, Mojo! Heal now, Mojo!" I turned and saw that he was two feet from my ankles. My pepper spray was in my hand, posed, and ready to fire. Just as I was about to push down on the trigger, Mojo turned back. My husband said that I should have sprayed anyway. "A dog needs to learn not to chase a person when they are not on their property." I don't know much about dog obedience. I'm just thankful Mojo didn't take a bite out of me!
For the remainder of my run, I thanked the Lord for keeping me safe and for the thoughtfulness of my husband.

Daybook
Outside my window::
- A 60 deg day. Spring is trying to over run the winter. We typically have a couple of inches of snow in April.
I am thankful for::
- a good friend who still emails me with encouragement.
I am wearing::
- a nursing turtleneck and a tan skirt
I am reading::
- Homeschooling with a Meek and Quiet Spirit by Teri Maxwell I really need to work on myself on having a meek and quiet spirit in all areas of my life, not just homeschooling.
I am hoping and praying::
- for two friends who are expecting.
I am creating::
- a cross-stitched wedding card. My sister inspired me to make it.
On my iPod::
- some podcasts from iPadre and SQPN Healthy Catholic; I especially enjoyed the one about the priest going from a couch potato to running a marathon.
I am running::
- 8.15 miles yesterday! I'm so proud of myself, especially tackling all of the hills. My house is at the highest elevation of the area, so everywhere I run involves hills.
Around the house::
- a broken hot water faucet for the tub. Hopefully, we can get it shut off so that we'll have a warm shower tomorrow. (The tub and shower are separate but are on the same water lines)
On the sewing front::
- finished the pinafores that were meant for Easter (see the picture below). Now on to the dresses for a cousin's wedding.
One of my favorite things::
- my camera. I really like my 'digital upgrade'. Thank you hubby!
A few plans for the rest of the week::
- a dentist appointment for myself, mom's homeschool meeting, and a diocesan Men's Conference for Michael.
A picture to share::

A Day at the Zoo
Squeaker had an appointment with a special pediatric dentist in Green Bay. Since she was so brave and we traveled all the way there (2.5 hours), we spent the afternoon at the zoo. Everyone's favorite were the ducks! One duck flew right toward Mr. T and just about kissed him!

He is Risen!
Happy Easter! Hope all had a blessed Lent. I feel that it was very fruitful for myself. I had focused on conforming my will to God's. I still don't have many answers, but I believe that I'm on the right path.
I finished the girls' Easter dresses just in time for Easter Vigil. I had wanted to make pinafores too, but I ran out of time.
I used the Girl's Value pattern from The King's Daughters.
